Don’t miss your last chance this year to chase waterfalls on Watkins Glen trail

Fall is fleeting and so are your chances to stroll through the waterfall-filled Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen State Park before the season ends.
The award-winning Finger Lakes gem announced that the two-mile trail, which passes 19 beautiful waterfalls, will close for the year on Nov. 4, 2024.
If you miss your chance this weekend, you’ll have to wait until mid to late May of 2025 when it is anticipated to reopen.
Watkins Glen State Park does have other trail options however, and you can still hike the Rim Trail year-round and catch views deep into the Glen Creek gorge from above.
After some record warm temperatures this week, the weather around Watkins Glen will return to cool autumn days, so make sure to bundle up and wear proper footwear as the spray from the falls can make the rocky pathways and flights of stone stairs wet.
Each year, visitors come by the busload to this Upstate New York town to stroll the scenic gorge trail surrounded by 200-foot cliffs.
2024 also marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of New York’s statewide park and historic site system, which includes Watkins Glen.
There is still time to complete the “Centennial Challenge” in New York’s State Parks for the chance to win prizes.
